Project No.: 2014-5
Situation: New Event Barn
Resort: The Ranch at Rock Creek
Location: Philipsburg, Montana
- Design a hard surface for access around the barn with an area to set a band up.
- Provide a functional green area to give aesthetics and use as additional gathering area.
- Incorporate a fire pit to add to the use of the facility.
- Must blend into existing landscape.
The event barn was added to accommodate several functions including weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, and after rodeo celebrations.
Over 500 yards of dirt was graded around the barn to effectively reduce the amount of slope form the barn to the field around it. This eliminated stairs and a steep embankment around the barn.
Tumbled Roman Pavers are used all over the country in barns, this made the product a natural fit to use around the structure. It is also a durable surface that will last forever. It doesn’t crack or discolor.
Large confer trees blend the building back into its surroundings. Quaking Aspen groups and native ground covers are all found in the surrounding hills, providing a natural, yet decorative element.
Extensive soil preparation created a very smooth and soft base for the outdoor gathering area.
A 4’ metal fire ring was set in ground, surrounded by the same pavers used in the patio area above. The fire pit was located away from the main gathering area to limit the hazards of guests falling in or burning themselves. Although placed on the edge of the lawn, the locations is central and easy to access.
A special blend of wildflower sod ornaments the areas of native seed that would not be fully established until next year.
