Project Scope:

This gorgeous landscape project in beautiful McAllister, MT began by replacing an existing, hard to maintain landscape. The owners wanted to enjoy the beauty of the mountains around their property without having to maintain large beds. Wagner and Company created small beds with large native plants and an efficient irrigation system to wrap around the house.

Another request from the owners was to create a large grass area that flowed into the pond. Wagner and company was able to accomplish this by laying beautiful, cool season Bluegrass sod throughout most of the property. When the owners go out to sit on their front porch, there is an endless view of green grass that flows from the pond to the surrounding trees and mountains.

Project Scope:

The owners original patio was constructed from low quality, short lasting pavers over a failing base. Their main objective was to replace the old pavers with high quality, sustainable, long lasting pavers with correct drainage. The patio was constructed with Belgard’s Lafitt Grana Slab pavers to add dimension and depth to their outdoor seating area. A custom built BBQ island along with seating benches constructed from Belgard’s Tandem Ashlar make this a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy the long Montana nights.

Project Scope:

Owners were looking to create a modern, outdoor landscape to match their modern Big Sky home for their family and guests enjoy the outdoors. Wagner and Company replaced an existing retaining wall with Montana native stone to provide retaining and drainage. The wall was completed with beautiful Montana native plants to provide color and depth.

A modern Belgard tile patio was designed and created by Wagner and Company Landscape. This patio provides both an easily maintained, sustainable outdoor living space. The patio was enhanced with a modern, outdoor glass firepit to enjoy the cool Montana skies.

Project Scope:

This landscaping project began with a beautiful design created by Wagner and Company Landscape addressing all the owners’ objectives to create their own paradise in Pray, MT.

A sustainable, easily maintained pathway was constructed from a Belgard Urbana product. This product is not only beautiful, but creates a smooth walkway and a surface that is easy to push snow in those harsh winter months. The custom built outdoor kitchen was constructed from East Coast granite with a gorgeous Pennsylvania Blue stone counter top. The outdoor kitchen was complete with a Twin Eagles grill to serve delicious BBQ dinners for many years.

Low maintenance flower beds were created using native Montana plants that add color and creativity to this natural landscape. A beautiful cool season Kentucky Bluegrass made this landscape a paradise that can be lived in for a lifetime.

Project Scope:

This project was designed around the concept of entertaining. The owners wanted a backyard that they could play in. While also keeping in mind an area to entertain guests around a firepit.

With these concepts in mind, a huge grass area was created for both children and adults to run in. This blue grass sod leads up to a paver patio that is created for low maintenance, functionality, and design.

Two paver pathways define the entrance to lead both to the front door and garage, creating easy access. Finally, large moss rock were placed to naturalize the landscape, creating a space to set their beer, and blending the landscape into the surrounding mountain ranges.

Project Scope:

Nestled in the mountains of southwest Montana, the project was centered around creating an area that reflected the beauty that surrounded it. With this in mind, this retreat was designed to be completely native, while still providing the residents with the lowest maintenance possible.

A stone patio was constructed with natural stone. Framed by area moss rock, this patio provides quiet relaxation for an evening underneath the Big Sky of Montana. Surrounding the patio is a native mix of wildflowers and native prairie grass. This concept creates a flow from the patio to the surrounding mountains and nearby river.

Project Scope:

This unique Southwest Montana landscape project centered around the desire to gather with family. The owners wished to create an area that was easily accessible around the entire house while keeping in mind an easily maintained setting.

Paver pathways and a patio were constructed to allow for a smooth and durable walkway with very little maintenance. A fire pit was created for family to gather around and enjoy a cool Montana evening. With ample space for outdoor entertaining, a true retreat was created.

The front entrance was framed with moss rock collected off the ranch and landscape beds filled with shrubbery, a variety of trees, and beautiful flowers make this entrance stand out.

A driveway retained with Belgard Belair block allows for a defined entrance to this amazing property.

Project Scope:

This large project had very specific challenges to accomplish the very specific goals of the owners. In order to install a circle driveway, Wagner and Co. first had to excavate and retain a hillside that was too close to the buildings to begin with. Moss rock boulders were used to retain the hill and trees and shrubs offer color and habitat. An asphalt driveway with concrete edges allow snow to be removed without pushing gravel into the plant beds that surround it.

A large grass area allows grandchildren to play beside the beautiful ponds and waterfalls that can be seen all over the property. A pathway from the house leads guests to an area next to the pond. A large patio and bench wall encompasses a custom built fire pit to allow visitors to have a place to watch others as they play in the water and on the sand beach.

This property had many challenges to incorporate into a beautiful landscape, all while preserving the view of the beautiful Tobacco Root Mountains. As you can see…the project found great success.

Mountain Escape
Location: Yellowstone Club, Big Sky, MT

Key Objectives:

• Remove old waterfalls and install new, natural water features that resemble mountain streams
• Make areas to allow several bronze statues of mountain sheep to be installed in a natural setting
• Enhance and modify old poorly executed landscape, complete with private Grotto for prayer and reflection
• Create a dog run complete with seating area

Project Scope:

Wagner and Company began this project while the home was still being remodeled and construction on the addition was in progress. To start, the first pond next to the house was removed and reshaped to accommodate a natural pond and stream. The old irrigation system was severely damaged running under the pond. A new pipe and zone wiring was re-routed in a safer location. A heavy liner is installed then covered with concrete to insure the liner is protected. Large boulders change a concrete bottom into a natural waterfall.

A new driveway was set to be installed so Wagner and Company built a 2 tier wall totaling 14’ in height to accommodate the slope on the driveway addition. This particular wall was built with basalt boulders averaging 10,000 lbs. each.

While part of the crew continued building the large wall, the second water feature commenced construction. After a rough idea was laid out, this feature began to take shape. Throughout the process several key areas were reserved to place the mountain sheep.

Wagner and Company prides its ability to accommodate all the wishes of their clients. In this project, the owner did not want an arbor that can be bought, instead they wanted something natural to the Rocky Mountains. Bob Wagner took the opportunity to create a truly unique arbor for the entry to her grotto. This arbor was created from scratch, on-site, with juniper limbs collected by the crew at Wagner and Co.

Lastly, dogs are a very important part of this client’s life. She wanted an area where her dogs could run freely in an area connected with the master bedroom. This area also doubles as a private meditation area surrounded by trees and beautiful flowers creating a peaceful, calm from the noise of the world.

Project Scope:

When a certain material is requested, such as stone, great care must be taken to ensure it is used properly and the rest of the landscape compliments it. This particular stone naturally occurs in vertical layers, so it is key to use it in the same way. Although not perfectly smooth, this stone was suitable to also be used as treads. A beautiful paver patio is used to barbeque and sitting area for guests.

The area soil is composed heavily of decomposed granite not allowing the soil to retain water. Wagner and Co. amended the entire planting area with a large amount of compost to balance the soil. This will allow plants and grass to thrive all while using minimal water and fertilizer.

Large trees and plants that are native to the area of Butte give stunning color and re-naturalize the lot back into the foothills that surround it. A lazy bed line makes this property easy to maintain.
